Vinted has published the first Climate Change Impact Report. Our Patron Member is pleased to be able to prove that buying used on Vinted is a better choice for the climate than buying new.
The company has partnered with climate technology start-up Vaayu to provide a comprehensive and independent analysis. The study shows that Vinted members’ choices to buy second-hand items instead of new ones, as well as the marketplace’s activities, resulted in net emissions avoidance of 453 kilotonnes of CO₂e in 2021. This is equivalent to the emissions produced by approximately 275,000 return flights between London and Los Angeles.
The report is based on the analysis of over half a billion transactions on Vinted in 2021 and the buying behaviour of 350,000 Vinted members – now considered the largest primary dataset on online second-hand purchases.
